作品解説

メキシコの沖合にある廃墟と化したリゾート地。ホテルや遊園地のコンクリート跡の中に、自然が着々と成長している。目に見えないスピーカーから、華やかなアトラクションに誘うような宣伝文句が聞こえてくる。しかし、そこには誰の姿もない。海は海岸に打ち寄せられ、風は自由自在に吹き荒れる。カメラがこの廃墟を丹念に探ると、若い女性と男性の、謎の海獣の存在からー自由と進歩が実現されない約束までの会話が聞こえてくる。テキストと映像の関係は、遊び心にあふれていて、朽ちることの美しさに観客を誘う、とても詩的な作品である。希望に満ち、自由な資本主義の時代に建てられたこの崩れかけたホテルは、新自由主義の行き過ぎを表しているのだろうか。それとも、私たちは単に自然の無限力を見ているのだろうか。

ミコ・レベレザ
1988年、フィリピン生まれ。バード・カレッジ(Bard College)で学び、数々の賞を受賞した実験映像作家。マニラから移り住み、長年にわたり米国に不法滞在している。この非正規滞在のドキュメンタリー映画作家の作品は、彼自身のドキュメンテーションとそれに伴う排除との闘いに強く影響されている。リベレザのドキュメンタリー映画デビュー作『Droga!/Drug! (2014)はJihlavaのベスト・エクスペリメンタル・ドキュメンタリー部門にノミネートされた。長編デビュー作『No Data Plan』(2019)はIFFRでプレミア上映された。

カロリーナ・フシリエル

1985年、アルゼンチン・ブエノスアイレス生まれ。 メキシコとアルゼンチンの間で生活し、活動している。学際的なアプローチを通して、彼女は未来の直感的な物語の中で人間と風景のつながりを探求している。 ポロック・クラズナー財団(the Pollock-Krasner Foundation)フェローシップ(2019-2020、米国)を受け、プロジェクト「Kitchen with a view」(2019)はFundación Jumex(メキシコ)およびLocust Projects(米国)の支援を受けている。2015年にはRaul Urtasun-Frances Harley Fellowship (The Banff Centre, Canada)を受賞。 アルゼンチンのブエノスアイレス映画大学で学び(2006-2009)、ドイツのデュッセルドルフアカデミー(Rita McBride教授、2018-2019)、メキシコのソーマ(2016-2017)、アルゼンチンのトルクアト・ディ・テラ大学のアーティストプログラム(2011)で補完研究をしている。また、The Drawing Center(アメリカ・ニューヨーク)が主催するプログラム「Open Sessions」にも参加。個展に、Kitchen with A View, Locust Projects, Miami, USA (2019)、Angel Engines, Natalia Hug Gallery, Cologne, Germany (2018)、Fenómeno, La Fábrica, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2014)があります。最近では、Sculpture Center, New York(2018)、The Drawing Center, New York(2019)、Centro Cultural Tlatelolco, Mexico(2019)、MAMBA, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires などの機関で作品を展示しています。

Miko REVEREZA (1988, Philippines) is an award-winning experimental filmmaker, educated at Bard College. Moving from Manila, he has lived illegally in the United States for years. The work of this undocumented documentary filmmaker is strongly influenced by his own struggle with documentation and the exclusion that comes with it. Revereza’s documentary film debut Droga!/Drug! (2014) was nominated for Best Experimental Documentary in Jihlava. His feature debut No Data Plan (2019) has its world premiere at IFFR.

Carolina Fusilier (Buenos Aires, 1985) lives and works between Mexico and Argentina. Through her multidisciplinary approach she explores human-landscape connections within intuitive narratives of the future. She received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship (2019-2020, USA) and her project Kitchen with a view (2019) has been supported by Fundación Jumex (Mexico) and Locust Projects (USA). In 2015 she received the Raul Urtasun-Frances Harley Fellowship (The Banff Centre, Canada). She studied at the Universidad del Cine, Buenos Aires, Argentina, (2006-2009) and has done complementary studies at the Düsseldorf Academy, Germany (Prof. Rita McBride, 2018-2019); Soma, Mexico (2016-2017); Programa de artistas de la Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Argentina, (2011). She was also part of Open Sessions, a program organized by The Drawing Center (New York, USA). Her solo exhibitions include Kitchen with A View, Locust Projects, Miami, USA (2019), Angel Engines, Natalia Hug Gallery, Cologne, Germany (2018) and Fenómeno, La Fábrica, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2014). She exhibited her work recently at institutions such as Sculpture Center, New York (2018); The Drawing Center, New York (2019), Centro Cultural Tlatelolco (Mexico, 2019), and MAMBA (Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires).
