『松前君とトヨタ君の映画』最新mix(2024-2025年/60分)

Artist/Filmmaker: Hiroyuki Oki

Profile

Hiroyuki Oki
Born in Tokyo in 1964, Hiroyuki Oki passed away in October 2025, deeply mourned by all. He began making films while studying architecture at the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Engineering, and in 1989 launched the “Matsumae-kun” series, set in Matsumae Town, Hokkaido. Moving between various locations such as Kochi and Tokyo, he continued to design “relationships” with the people and landscapes he encountered in each place through his films.
His creative activities spanned a wide range; from his early films employing an improvisational, diary-like style to the multi-layered, overlapping editing of his later years, he constantly explored his own unique visual language. Interweaving drawing and performance, he wove fragments of his daily thoughts into something akin to a psychological map. For Ohki, film was architecture itself—a means of capturing the breath of living people and constructing invisible “places of belonging.” His career, highly acclaimed at museums and film festivals both in Japan and abroad, slipped through existing frameworks and continues to radiate a free light even today. A solo exhibition is scheduled for 2027 at the Kochi Prefectural Museum of Art, and the stories depicted by this extraordinary artist will surely continue to be woven and renewed by future generations.
